Information Campaign against Human Trafficking for At-Risk People
in Small Towns & Villages of Vinnytsia region
May 1, 2007 - May 31, 2008
Our research tells us that most of the victims of human trafficking come form rural towns & villages rather than the city. Of the 38 victims we have identified since 2006, only 11 are from Vinnytsia, meaning that 70% live in rural Vinnytsia oblast.
Conducting lectures it is not enough within the narrow circle of risk groups. To more effectively deal with the problem of human trafficking, it is very important to have a public discussion, to give information about the problem to people, not only including the group at risk but also to those in their surroundings. The lecturers of our organization have conducted seminars in educational establishments, employment centers and rural community administrations. Our volunteers have also handed out anti-human trafficking & hotline literature on the street and have conducted interviews with the representatives of local mass media (radio, newspaper, TV studio) whenever possible.
Anti-Human Trafficking Hotline
Ongoing since 2004
An ongoing project of Progressive Women is to maintain a telephone hotline, which operates weekdays from 10 am until 3 pm, to answer questions callers may have about working abroad. Typical callers are often those who shop at the border, plan to study abroad or even plan to take a vacation. Our operator can give realistic advice about employment abroad, youth exchange programs and also basic principles about safety abroad, the legitimacy of employment firms, rules of working visas, etc.
