Why was Progressive Women created?

As a result of the current democratic transformation of Ukraine, it is now possible for citizens to create public organizations (NGOs).

Since many active women felt that they were treated as second-rate, with limited career opportunities and access to positions of social power and prestige, the time was right to establish an organization to promote gender equality.

At the same time, the mass media was promoting a new image of women, from the «woman/worker» model of socialist times to the «sex/virgin» and «mother/housewife» roles of a more democratic society. Women’s disagreement about these stereotypes resulted in the creation of our organization.
